6/6/6 Well… 06/06/2006

Uuuuggghhh!  The Apocalypse is here.

It's also the anniversary of D-Day.  I hope we can all remember all of those that fought during the greatest conflict of the 20th century.  Make sure and visit the National D-Day Museum site.

Another thing that happened around this time, oh about 5 years ago was the launch (if you can call it that) of World War II Online.
I was excited back then, hoping for lot's of players and that the servers would hold up.  We did get a lot of players, but the servers didn't fair so well, and the rest is history.

It's been a long road since then, and many of my co-workers are no longer here to share 5 years at the same game, but it's been a good experience.   Five years for an online game is a good run.  We have seen many other MMOGs fall along the wayside but we have managed to hang around.   A lot of it has to do with our community, which is loyal to a fault, and some of it with Jim (Maypole).  A good guy and one dedicated to seeing this project be successful (however you measure it).  Kudos to our CEO.
Lot's of other Rats/ex-Rats can also be directly linked to the longevity of the game, as well as it's past and present problems.

For the sake of our player base, I hope the persistent world continues, and we continue to grow.
Here's to another five years for Playnet and WWIIO

  1. Happy 5th Birthday!

A BIG !S to all the Rats past & present for creating this amazing game. There may be many games that claim to be bigger or better, but we all know there isn’t anything quite like this game!

It’s a combination of the game, the community & of course the Rats, that make this game so special. Can’t think of too many other games that have in game memorials to players that have passed away, just shows what a class act you guys are.

Anyway, here’s hoping for many many more great years.

  2. It has been a rocky road, perhaps light at the end of the tunnel is in sight, the game is getting visually and technically better. Lets hope that people see the game for what it is now and not what it was back when it was launched.

The game has changed incredibly in teh last few years, it has become complex for a lot especially the new players, the amount of green tags you see wandering around is quite worrying. If they do not speak up or someone doesn’t take them under their wing they tend to become disconsolate with the game and fade away into another failed account.

Here’s to a simpler user interface for players who just want to shoot up the enemy and a rich user interface for players like myself who are interested in the strategic and technical portion of the game.

  3. Oh yeah and here’s to another 5 years of CRS gaming 🙂

  4. God, I don’t know what I’ll do the day they pull the plug….on the servers, not my ventilator! Here’s to at least another 5 years!!

*frosty Canadian kisses to my favorite Grandpa!*
